About Truth on Tech
Truth on Tech is more than just a blog — it’s a movement born from necessity.
Founded by Mel Mtintsilana, a South African entrepreneur and technologist, Truth on Tech began in 2023 as a platform to share hard-earned lessons from over a decade in the trenches of IT, open-source, and self-reliant infrastructure.
The roots of this journey go back to 2013, when Mel started MComm Technologies, driven by a single, personal goal: to help his family and children break free from lifelong digital dependency. Voice calls, internet access, storage, cloud backups — everything was locked behind costly services and foreign infrastructure. That didn’t sit right.
A Mission With Meaning
What started as a way to solve problems at home grew into a broader mission:
To liberate African individuals and businesses from being passive consumers of technology — and instead empower them to build, host, scale, and own their digital tools and data.
Truth on Tech is where this mission is documented and shared.
Why This Blog Exists
This platform is for anyone who’s tired of:
- Being locked into bloated service contracts
- Losing control of their data
- Overpaying for voice and cloud services
- Being told “this is the only way”
Here, you’ll find real-world insights on everything from AI deployments and open-source systems, to scaling infrastructure and avoiding digital exploitation.
We talk about what works, what doesn’t, and why owning your stack matters more than ever — especially in Africa.
What We Stand For
- Data Sovereignty: You should control your data — not foreign platforms.
- Open Source First: Power, privacy, and scalability shouldn’t be luxuries.
- Tech Without Chains: No lock-ins. No gatekeeping. Just knowledge, tools, and community.
- Building for Legacy: This is about building a future for our children that isn’t reliant on imported solutions.
